horticultural solar project

Mrs Bobby Smith runs an award winning social and therapeutic horticultural project in Leicestershire. Established sixteen years ago, the Charnwood Gardening Project provides support for disabled gardeners including people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and physical disabilities.

With no mains electricity on the site, Bobby chose PV to provide the power after visiting allotments in Leicester who also recommended Run by the Sun to her. Part funded by a charitable donation a 135Wp solar module was installed on their classroom. This was linked to a number of deep cycle batteries, which provide them with the lighting and mains power they need. An LED lighting system was installed to make the system as energy efficient as possible.

Bobby described the installation, “Simon was very helpful, looked at the classroom and gave us everything we needed. The installation was done in a day and a half with no disruption to the project. In fact, because I was so happy in how the installation went on the classroom, I installed a 3.2 kW solar panel system on my own home and I have gone on to recommend Run by the Sun to many of my friends.
